Doors generally operate using on of the following types of gear:
Canopy gear is ideal for manual single doors where there is only limited room inside the garage. When open, approximately one third of the door sticks out to form a canopy. One disadvantage of this type of gear is that it cannot easily be automated.
Retractable door gear is suitable for automation; however, the door travels back into the garage by almost it's entire height, so care should be taken that there are no pipes or brickwork in the way.
Sectional is probably the most practical of doors, they offer strength, durability, vertical lifting and draught free insulation. They do, however, tend to be space hungry, and a specification sheet is necessary. Sectional doors are suitable for automation and offer height and width advantage in a lot of cases.
Roller Shutter have particular head room requirements, normally 300mm. They are however, a good alternative when maximum width is required and a sectional will not fit. Automation is recommended for this type of door.
